Metal Theft Deterrent Success

A SITE in Suffolk belonging to one of the biggest insurance companies in the world suffered no metal theft for more than eight months following the application of SelectaDNA Grease to lead items on the premises.

The AXA site had been a continual target for lead theft over a three year period, with the building being damaged every month. Grease was applied along with deterrent warning signs and some extra lighting.

Grease not only marks metal but, if touched, it also stains the hands and clothes of the offender with a UV tracer and a unique DNA code. These marks can stay on skin and clothing for weeks, forensically linking criminals to stolen metal. The UV tracer in the substance means that it becomes visible under ultraviolet scanners, which can be searched for in all UK police stations.
