Classroom equipment belonging to a large primary school in Birmingham has been marked with SelectaDNA to keep better track of valuable items and deter theft.
Laptops, iPads, computers and teaching equipment at Pheasey Park Farm Primary School have all been marked with the traceable forensic marking liquid, as well as desks, tables, chairs and whiteboards.
Outdoor tools and equipment including tractors that are used to maintain the grounds at the school have also been security marked with the easy to apply liquid.
SelectaDNA is an invisible DNA solution that can be painted onto any valuable property allowing it to be traceable back to an individual school.
In the event that any equipment is stolen, the solution also contains coded microdots that can instantly help police to identify stolen property and its rightful owner, with the use of a simple microscope.
John Guy, Head of Technology at Pheasey Park Farm, said: “We recently set up a new inventory to ensure that all our portable electronic equipment was accounted for and wanted an effective security solution to protect each item.”
He continued: “We have marked all our ICT equipment with SelectaDNA and found it very easy to use. We have also applied the tamper proof stickers that are supplied with the marking kit to each item. This in itself is a proven deterrent to burglars, as marked items are more difficult to sell-on.”
